Acid Volatile Sulfides (AVS) and extracted metals (SEM)
Page author : Angélique Carrara, Delphine Tisserand.
This system was designed and developed at ISTerre for the extraction and quantification of Acid Volatile Sulfides (AVS) and Simultaneously Extracted Metals (SEM). It is miniaturized, unbreakable and allows its use on the field.
Publication of the technique => https://doi.org/10.1016/j.talanta.2021.122490.
AVS SYSTEM AND SEM | |
---|---|
Framework for use | Apparatus used in the framework of research projects at ISTerre and OSUG, or in the framework of external services. |
Technical Specifications | Sample Types Sediments in suboxic or anoxic media. If not used in the field, preliminary sampling under anoxic conditions (contact us beforehand). Technical data Extraction of AVS and SEM with acid. Purge and Trap’ method and complexing of SVA with methylene blue. LQ : 0.2 µmol absolute of H2S. Extraction time : 1 hour. SEM extracted= Ag, Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn, Hg... Types of analysis Volatile acidic sulphides, simultaneously extracted metals. Evaluation of the toxicity of a sediment by the ratio AVS/SEM (Ineris, 2004, US-EPA, 2005). |
Quality Control | Permanent control of anoxia and tightness of the system, double calibration, certified standards (for SEM). |
