HYNA prospection

 Project title: HYNA prospection
Project leader(s): TRUCHE Laurent - GARAMBOIS Stephane - DONZE Frederic
Team(s) involved: Mineralogy - Waves & structures - Fault mechanics
 Amount: 6000 euros

**Description of the project

"The aim is to acquire suitable geotechnical equipment to I) identify the surface emanation zones of gases (H2, CO2, CH4, for example) produced at depth and generally migrating along faults and II) assess their flow. From previous field campaigns carried out in 2019, it was observed that the most significant gas releases were associated with the presence of deep water sources. The acquisition of a latest-generation electromagnetic conductivity meter will enable us to obtain information on several investigation depths (up to about ten meters) in real time and in a single pass. Once the fluid upwelling zones have been identified, the use of a portable coring machine for drilling down to 20 m deep will enable us to measure gas concentrations at different depths, avoiding the disturbances that we usually find at the surface. The Shaw portable core drill that we wish to acquire meets this need. These two instruments can also be used by our colleagues involved, for example, in the study of ground movements. The equipment acquired will be included in the laboratory inventory and can be made available to the community via the ISTerre GIS service and integrated into G-proge for teaching (L3PRO and Master)."
