Monitoring of spatio-temporal variations of the Argentière glacier landslide by a high-frequency GPS network

Project title: Monitoring of spatio-temporal variations in the landslide of the Argentière glacier by a GPS network Monitoring of spatio-temporal variations in the landslide of the Argentière glacier by a high-frequency GPS network deployed as part of the ANR SAUSSURE high-frequency project
 Project leader(s): WALPERSDORF Andrea
Team(s) involved: Seismic CYCLE and transient deformations - Fault mechanics - Waves & structures
 Amount: 3600 euros

**Description of the project

"In the frame of an M2 internship, the continuous and high frequency GPS data acquired within the framework of ANR Saussure (PI Christian Vincent, IGE) are going to be processed. This project aims to characterize the internal deformation of the Argentière glacier by deploying multidisciplinary observations in order to distinguish between different basal friction laws, a major lock for a good prediction of the current retreat of the glaciers with its many environmental and economic implications. Several ISTerre teams are involved : Cycle (Andrea Walpersdorf), Faults (Agnès Helmstetter) and Waves (Stéphane Garambois). The trainee will have the opportunity to enhance the exceptional set of GPS measurements by comparing them to seismological, inclinometric, piezometric, rock bed topography, flow and basal slide measurements obtained by the cavitometer installed at the base of the Argentière glacier".
